Empty doorways

Over the past few years I have found myself getting less caught up in the Christmas rush and hype. Lots of energy and money are expended, and before you know it is done and dusted for another year. Soon the easter eggs will be on the supermarket shelves and we will all be caught up in the next hype. Am I being too scroogey?

My point is, this festive season please spare a thought those people in your cities, towns and neighbourhoods that are less fortunate and doing it tough. Perhaps you have some spare change to buy a coffee? Or even just offer a smile. Here some haiku thoughts for the many people that are sleeping rough every night.

Working day over
Snuggled into doorway
Cardboard dreams

Homeless man -
Working hard for loose change
And a smile

Sky opens up
Wind swirls and bites
Soggy cardboard night

Moonlight filters
Between big city buildings
Empty doorways beckon

Yuletide sounds
Ring out across the city
A change cup jingles

Friends and a bed
Warm laughter crackles
Under a Bridge

Merry Christmas.
